#4 Finish . . . g a f f

Category: Computer & Internet

Status: failed/abandonded

Description/Motivation

If i'd go my normal way, i'd probably be adding stuff and changing things for months to come without ever putting the site online. So i've decided to have the basics up and running first, then put the site live (which it obviously is now) and do the adding, tweaking and changing later on.

  • Fix comment link on homepage
  • Fix IE6 css bug
  • Fix Firefox (or actually: fix for IE); probably a padding issue
  • HTML filter for comments
  • Add 'about'
  • Add colour switcher
  • Add anti-spam to comments
  • Parse links in comments
  • Add prev/next navigator
  • Add categories
  • Add Tags?
  • Rebuild archive (AJAX based; later)
  • Add preview to admin
  • Fix 404
  • Create working 'general error' catch
  • Email comments (?)
  • Build footer
  • AJAX based commenting
  • Add feeds (use feedburner?)
  • Add 'share' to entry bar (link/email/social bookmarking)
  • Parse links with anchors Apperantly it was ok already
  • Add link out processor
  • Add dropdown in 101 editor
  • Add indexer and search (later)
  • Add robots.txt & META tags
  • Automate META tags keywords/description
  • Add xml sitemap
  • Fix comments time bug
  • Look into image captions
  • Add 'related' to entries
  • Look into an image (or media) system

Note: finish in this context means to finish some functionality i'd like to have on this site and does not mean finish the site as a whole, as it - hopefully - is an ongoing project for years to come.

Success criterion/-a

When all listed items are done (or abandonded).

Progress

27 january 2008: I'm going through the, list and fixing things.
8 march 2008: Noticed and fixed a bug in the comment-time display.
23 march 2008: Added a select for the 101 list (admin).
12 april 2008: added a few more ideas: look into image captions, add a 'related' to entries & look into a media system
20 april 2008: added an indexer and 'prev/next' thingy. Also minor updates on both fron-t and backend.
14 may 2008: added anti-spam filter to comments

1 january 2009: I keep forgetting about updating my journal, so what's the point of trying to keep one? The journal will be taken down soon (?). Maybe i'll replace the site, maybe not. For now, after almost 10 years, no more gaff.
