The 101 in 1001 project: revisions and updates
During our vacation, we've discussed a few of the items on my list, gained new insights and got on the way with a few.
#26: Read 15 non-fiction books &
#28 Learn about financial stuff
Mostly in the hammock, we both read Your money or your life by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin and had long and good discussions about it.
Your money or your life is a book about Personal Finance: how to align your finances with your personal beliefs and goals and thereby gaining financial insight, integrity & independence.
#32 Read all unread books
Started with Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. So far - after about 1/3 - i like it a lot.
#46 Setup an emergency fund
Though not actually done yet, we have discussed setting up such fund and agreed on the ammount.
#51 Create financial overview
Inline with Your money or your life, new ideas emerged and we're going to change our current setup accordingly. We plan to start using our system march 1st.
#53 Start budgetting
Your money or your life gave us some new insights. Budgetting yes, but differently from what i was planning and probably not as seperate from #51 Create financial overview i i was initially thinking. This item will be reviewed again when we've got #51 going for a while.
#55 Make future plans
The big idea now is financial independence within 15 years.
#59 Learn to make focaccia
As we loved eating taco's, i also want to learn how to make tortilla's. And -how could i forget- also i need to add Naan, that soft tasty indian bread. So it's #59 Learn to make focaccia, tortilla's & naan now.
#67 Build some auto-play music device
Reading a mindnumbing magazine (in the hammock...), i came across a digital watch displaying time in a sort of binary way. Being utterly charmed by this idea, i'd like to make a clock based on this idea even more than the loo-music-device. As the point of this item is doing something with electronics again, it's #67 Build a clock or auto-play music device.
#68 Find more Geocaches
Found four caches in Cancun over two days. Counting as two for this list, as we've been caching twice.
#72 Research Ebook device
In the same or a similar mindnumbing magazine (#67 above) i read about A5-size notebooks. Maybe that will do as a e-reader too? So take these into account when researching Ebook devices.
#76 Create a caching/travel bag
We should have done thise before the trip. We had a few hours without electricity and our torch still nicely at home. No problems though, but still, we should have taken the torch along. So getting this bag sorted out just is a good idea.
#77 Go horseriding
Nina said she'd actually prefer doing other things above the horseriding; i'm a bit reluctant changing this entry as personally i do like the idea (and it's my list anyway...). But then again, if she doesn't really want to go horseriding, this item becomes non-achievable. For now it stays, but under scrutiny.

My trick to stop biting nails was start chewing on my pinkies only and when i got that as a habit, one day i decided to stop chewing on 'em at all.

Senator Specter misunderstands the Supreme Court's socidien in U.S. v. Morrison, which struck down Subtitle II-C of the Violence Against Women Act because domestic violence does not have a "substantial relation" to interstate commerce. (Even Justice O'Connor, whom Specter has cited as a model justice, joined in that socidien).Contrary to Specter's interpretation of the socidien, the Court did defer to Congress's FACTUAL findings in Morrison that domestic violence has a big QUANTITATIVE effect on the national economy. But that wasn't the issue. The issue was whether it was sufficiently closely-linked to interstate commerce in a QUALITATIVE sense. As Judge Niemeyer observed in the Fourth Circuit socidien affirmed by the Supreme Court, the test for whether something substantially affects interstate commerce under Lopez and Morrison is akin to proximate cause, a LEGAL determination for judges, not just a FACTUAL determination for Congress. Since domestic violence is more likely to occur in noncommercial settings like private homes, and less likely than most forms of violence to occur in channels of commerce or businesses, it has no qualitative relationship to commerce, much less a "substantial relation" to interstate commerce. That is true even though, like most serious social problems, it has a very indirect but also very real QUANTITATIVE affect on commerce. The Court respected Congress's findings about the indirect effect of domestic violence on commerce and did not question their accuracy. But those findings were still not enough, legally speaking, to uphold the statute, since they did not suggest any qualitative relationship. The findings thus were just one element among the several elements needed to uphold the statute. And the other elements were missing. As for the alternative theory underlying the law invalidated in Morrison -- the Fourteenth Amendment -- the Fourteenth Amendment only reaches state, not private discrimination. And as the amicus briefs for the prevailing respondents showed (citing federal data), states do not discriminate against women in handling domestic violence (indeed, they handle domestic violence against women as diligently, on average, as other crimes, although there is some evidence that male victims of domestic violence get short shrift -- the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics' survey of large urban counties showed that the unproked killing of a husband by a wife only results in an average sentence of 7 years, compared to 17 years for the killing of a wife by a husband).

Most of the children are abused at home. by their own relative, sometimes by a parent or siblings. I have also heard cases, where the father abuses the daughter, and mother just ignores it, as it gives her free time. where will the child go for any help? children are conditioned to go to their parents for emotional support. so, the keep going to their father or mother and want to please them as that is what they are told to do. parents telling children to “respect elders. Do what they tell. You have to please them in order to get recogonition/acceptance”.. this is the basic reason why children do not report that they are being abused. in fact they don’t even know they are being abused. they only believe that they are still not being able to “please” his/her abuser. They think it is their fault and blame themselves for it. Good movie suggestion: “The Woodsman”. If you haven’t seen it before, it is a must-see movie.

Rocky and anyone who stops by to read: fighting domestic violence is one of the Verizon Foundation’s key initiatives, along with literacy. Funds are typically managed on a state-by-state basis, so if you are seeking support for a domestic violence initiative, find someone who works for Verizon in your state and ask them to help.

Thanks for the comments ;-DD Yes it is EXTREMELY hard to stop myself from biting my nails, I don't do it as often any more but it's still hard to completely stop cause' you realise after doing it for so long that it just becomes a subconcious habit.
Looks like you're making good progress too ! Have you finished Catch-22 yet ? I bought it recently and will start it soon as well. Good goals. I think an ebook device could be handy.
